Captain Marvel Movie Review

I took the kids to go see Captain Marvel, the latest in the quote on quote Marvel Movie Universe. Its overall not that bad of a movie. Granted I was going into it thinking that it was going to be a complete disaster of a movie. Part of it was the marketing of Captain Marvel that made it seem a bit confusing. I’ve never read the Captain Marvel comics, so I really didn’t know what to expect. I had a little knowledge of what she was about, sort of a female Marvel Superman kind of thing. Seeing the movie made me understand at least the Marvel Entertainment approach to the origin of the character.

The Kree and the Skrull interactions are interesting and apparently are changed from the comic series. The flow of the movie was choppy in parts and was a lot like the first Iron Man movie on the back and forth cuts. The visuals were in line with other Marvel movies and I wasn’t disappointed with that aspect. The plot is a comic book based movie, so you know there is obvious jumps you see coming from the flow of the movie. I felt like they spent a bit to much time in the “I don’t know who I am” phase of the movie. The later part of the moview flows better and it more solid from a storyline perspective. Its alomost as if they figured they would try and delay a surprise as long as possible at the sacrifice of the movie.

I liked seeing the younger Nick Fury figuring out the MCU world he will be part of in the future. The cat thing stills the show and is one of the fun parts of seeing it in a movie theater. I feel like the cat made up for the semi-bad acting in the beginning of the movie.

Captain Marvel is entertaining and that is really why you go to the movie theater to watch a movie in the first place. Its not the best movie out there, but neither are a lot of the Marvel movies. They are pure entertainment without a lot of intellectual play.

I don’t think I’d want to see it again, but overall its not a horrible movie. Some fun top gun references as well as general 90s pop culture aspects throughout the movie.

Let me know below, if you had any opportunity to see the movie.
