31 ways to get in shape

1. Don’t eat chocolate chip ice cream at night

It’s not good to eat sweets and night because as you sleep it adds to you overall shape so to speak. Its so hard though, so many great ice cream choices and you are trying to relax at night watching a great show. Ice cream sort of calls for you, speaks in your ear, “Its ok, just this once”. If you start by just ignoring the 30 other flavors of ice cream calling for you at night you are on your way to helping yourself lose weight.

Its better to eat sweets in the morning, I bet that is why there is a bunch of restaurants that focus on pancakes and waffles. You know what I’m talking about.

Personal experience

So, I’ve been trying to eat better. Its hard at first you can’t just do it all at once. Cutting out sugar and gluten out of my diet really helps me, but when someone in the house makes some warm bread it’s hard to resist the taste of butter on bread. The journey to remove bad food out of your diet isn’t easy, don’t watch those videos that say they lost weight in 1 or 2 weeks. It takes time, dedication and the self control not to eat that bread or ice cream.

My wife likes to tease me about eating well for a couple weeks and then failing off the band wagon. I see the cake that someone bought on the counter and just think to myself, “One piece shouldn’t hurt”. It does, it makes you slip into the potato chips and then some how you wake up from a sugar coma with a whip cream can next to you, drops of chocolate sauce all over your shirt and crumbs of cake on the ground. Its like a tasmanin devil broke into your body and decided to eat everything in the house.

Avoiding the pit of dispair

The ups and downs of eating bad food is almost like a drug. You get a lift initially from eating a some and then feel like utter garbage when you start processing it, making you crave more of the lift. I’ve come up with a couple strategies on how you can avoid this cycle, and when you buy my book….

Just kidding.

Here are the tips:

  • When going in the kitchen for a snack, get a glass of water instead. Sometimes just having the act of getting something satisfies you a little and you avoid eating to much during the day.
  • Keep some almonds or nuts around that you can munch on as a snack. Keep the count down to about 5-10 for the snack count, and possibly get chocolate covered nuts. :)
  • When you feel the need to get the sugar high, do a couple pushups, situps or walk around outside.
  • Take a 10 minute nap, if you are feeling like you have low energy or not able to focus.
  • Popcorn doesn’t seem to bad, but I could be completely wrong. I’m still working on this.

Hope this helps you on your journey. Exercise, plus not snacking all the time helps you to lose fat over the long run. It isn’t a short term goal. I’ll post more about my exercise journey later.
