Front Driveway

Man oh man, what to do.

So we are in the process of converting a house into a home. One of the fun things we discovered after owning the house for a couple years is the winter spring that drains into our property. This spring is great because it helps the grass (it’s really weeds, let’s be realistic) grow and frogs. Well I mean frogs are fun if you don’t hear 50 of them at once.

The spring has been working on destroying our front driveway for a while and I’m in the process of planning out how to fix the problem. The original owner decided that lawn drain pipes would work with the driveway. Spoiler alert it doesn’t, the drain pipe has bent over time and can’t manage the flow of water correctly.

Right now, I’m planning on getting a 12” culvert pipe (used for drainage) and digging it in the driveway. The approach will be renting a mini excavator to dig the trench and another lower section on either end of the culvert to catch the water. Going to start with a base layer of 57 gravel, then overlay some 86 gravel. The water catches I’m going to build up a wall type border out of rip rap rocks. Its a plan, so I’ll add the task on the list, be sure to watch for updates in the renovation part of this site to see what I actually do.

The joys of land management right?
